Snippets From The Road – Packing Up

We arrived in Denver and got to work right away.

Packing, booking shipping pods, strategising logical sequence of operations, were the priorities.

We were greeted by a constant buzz.  Cicadas.

These are not your common cicadas that emerge every 17 years to serenade us.  These are the really common cicadas that emerge every year and no one talks about them because they don’t emerge once every 17 years.  Go figure.

Here is a close up look of the alien looking Dog-day Cicada.   Isn’t it cool?

Over the past two weeks, we got the most of the stuff in the house packed and loaded onto two shipping pods, tetris-style. We replaced a toilet, a vanity, and flooring in the basement bathroom.

Now that we have no furniture to speak of, we brought in the campervan mattresses and are having some fun time with Penny who loves burrowing in the new beddings.

We even hosted a small dinner party and drank French sparkling wine from water glasses which tasted just fine.

Items are added to our schedule as the days are crossed out.  We are on track!

Today, we had a hawk visit the sunflower garden looking for some mice

Here is a closer look, unfortunately a little blurry.  We couldn’t tell if it was a Cooper Hawk or a different kind, but it was big!

Evenings usually look like this.  We will miss the sunflowers and the wildlife they attract.

Next time we’ll try to tell you about the Red Baron’s uncle.

Cicadas are creepy little buggers, especially when you get one in the house. Good on you for being so organized and getting ‘er done. Have a great day. Allan

The life of a COMMON cicada—when no one talks about you. They are an odd looking and unique. One of my brothers lives in Aurora, right next to Denver. I like the old-school handmade calendar.

You are very organized but that’s no surprise 😉 It will be so much easier at the other end. The hawk is a beautiful bird. You just don’t want it visiting when your daily birds are around. Penny is adorable. Good luck with the final days.

Good luck with the move. I too thought you were moving but see in the comments your clarification. Cicadas add gross and it’s creepy to think there’s a variety that arrives annually!

Okay. What did I miss. Is this a permanent move. Are you migrating to the US of A? Have you given up on Canada? Big moves need the expertise of an Ad Agency.

Ah, cicadas are a nuisance! It’s one thing to experience a certain one every 17 years, but another to experience another EVERY year– honestly, I’d take the former! Looks like ultimate summer tranquility, as we head into the next month and, soon enough, the fall season and cooler temperatures!

I remember the first time I saw a cicada, it was much bigger than I was expecting. I love the sound of them though and they always remind me of the end of summer. Best of luck with the rest of the move. It sounds like you are very organized! As someone who also loves to plan, I appreciated your detailed schedule / calendar!

We would love to hear from you!
